You might want to try your library. They might have a way to scan them or direct you in the direction of someone who can.

Almost all of the FedEx Office locations can do that...and usually pretty cheap.

I find it hard to believe that FedEx Office will do anything cheap! Maybe Costco's photo department.

Along with all the other suggestions, your local photo shop may rent out slide scanners.

Well...... If they are really great pictures, you might as well have him make quality scans. Besides, he probably has others worth scanning. I just scanned 3500 images using this LINK . They came out clear as a bell. Cheap scanners tend to be out of focus.
